Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s significance in the sporting context at FC Bayern has diminished, as the central attacking role that he once occupied has now been handed to the 18-year-old talent, Mathys Tel, for this season. The young French player has rewarded coach Thomas Tuchel’s trust with goal-scoring performances, while Choupo-Moting has assumed a more secondary role and is reportedly contemplating a departure from the club.

When FC Bayern needed its backup striker, he was there. A year ago, when the record champion parted with the goal guarantee named Robert Lewandowski, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting suddenly had to step into the breach.

Between matchday 10 and 16, the Cameroonian contributed seven goals and thus played a significant role in a series of six league victories.

But in the meantime, “Mr. Reliable” has become expendable, with youngster Mathys Tel mostly taking over as Harry Kane’s replacement. The Frenchman regularly impresses in his few minutes of action and has already scored six goals in eleven games this season.

Choupo-Moting only signed a new contract with the record champion in March, which will pay him over five million euros for the current season.

Is ‘Mr. Reliable’ Choupo-Moting’s Time at FC Bayern Over?

CONTRACT EXTENSION AS A GESTURE

Choupo-Moting’s “good mood factor” allegedly prevailed. The extension is now seen as a great but also premature gesture.

At present, the possibility of a contract extension is off the table, but a winter sale remains a viable option. This course of action would enable the Munich team to secure a transfer fee for the experienced player.
